Mark Your Calendars: The 5th Annual Boise Neighborhood Ice Cream Social is Tuesday, August 5th from 6:00-7:00 (or until the ice cream runs out.) The Ice Cream Social is an opportunity for Boise businesses to give back to our neighbors. Last year, on the hottest day of the year we served 4,680 scoops of ice cream in one hour.

The November Mississippi Social will be on Thursday, November 8th. Don’t miss the Grand Reopening Party at Flutter from 5-9pm. See the expanded space and celebrate the arrival of Frocky Jack Morgan. Mill about amongst tulle-laden ladies serving finger-foods, fireworks and free champagne! Shop, chatter, and indulge to the tunes of the Djangophiles, live a little!

Hovel will be show the work of local artist Vanessa Calvert. Venessa works with photo collage and encaustic to create warped and deteriorating images that are suspended in moody, textural backgrounds.Her work will be on display through the first of the year.

Black Wagon hosts the art opening of Portland artist, Lesley Reppeteaux. Hailing from Nova Scotia, Canada, Reppeteaux is a storyteller who is deeply affected by the marriage of art and literature.

The October Mississippi Social will be Thursday, October 11th. Come on out and see what’s happening. Hovel will be featuring Textile Artisans, Salty’s is having a Singles Party, and Amalee will be featuring Shannon Tudyk, a mixed media artist, who does collage and top-stitching on paper.

The September Mississippi Social will feature Flourish, a collaborative fashion show with new looks from Phlox, Gypsy Chic, Sameunderneath, Pin Me Apparel, Blue, Amalee and Black Wagon. The event, held at the corner of N. Mississippi Ave and N. Beech St right next to Amnesia Brewing, will begin at 6pm with a silent auction and raffle. The fashion show will begin at 7pm. $2 suggested donation. Proceeds to benefit the Historic Mississippi Business Association and Albina Youth Opportunity School. Everyone is invited to celebrate the diverse and creative culture of the independent businesses on Mississippi Ave.
